One of the most important aspects of using a Video Input in immersive video production is understanding where it exists in space (specifically relative to your experience’s tracking space). The simplest setup would include a stationary video input, though with VR systems, MixCast also supports moving cameras which are referred to as ‘Tracked’ as you need to attach a tracked object to the video input to keep its placement in sync.

Though MixCast allows you to manually enter the position and rotation of a video input, the primary method to determine your Video Input’s alignment is to run through either:

  • VR Controller Calibration: For VR system tracking – Launches MixCast’s VR configuration app if not already open and walks you through the process of telling MixCast where your camera is through Controller interactions. You’ll need a VR system connected to the machine including a controller, and should recalibrate alignment whenever your Tracking System’s base alignment has changed (such as performing Room Setup).
  • Tilt Five Calibration: For Tilt Five system tracking – Calculates where the camera is based on its view of the Tilt Five board. This requires that the Tilt Five board is at least partially in view and has been correctly configured in the Tilt Five Control Panel. You should recalibrate any time either the camera or board has been moved.

Note: If you’re using a supported device, MixCast might also be able to use the camera’s IMU sensors to increase your alignment accuracy.
